Job Description:

The Post 1. On ward cover, handover and morning ward round of all patients, ensuring the action plan from the handover is carried out and that there is proper daily documentation in the notes and adherence to VTE and MRSA prophylaxis protocols. Answer all ward calls and attend as required. Maintain an updated inpatient list. 2. On theatre days, carry out preoperative patient review with your team and assist with surgery, documentation and ensure the postoperative plan is followed. Review postoperative patients that are staying overnight. 3. When on-call, take A&E and external referrals and those from other departments, review them and formulate a management plan with senior input. 4. When not on ward cover, oversee management of the consultantís inpatients (delegating tasks to ward cover). Discharge summaries should be released on the day of discharge by the ward cover but may be prepared in advance by the patientís own team. 5. Complete morbidity and mortality presentation of your allocated consultant in the monthly academic half-day meeting. 6. Comply at all times with the Trustís dress code. 7. Take responsibility for your continuing professional development and attend Trust essential training, any clinical updates and Trust Academic Half Days as appropriate. 8. Undergo an annual appraisal as part of maintaining medical registration as required for Revalidation. 9. Participate in the departmental teaching rota, journal club and grand rounds. Person Specification 1. Full GMC registration 2. MRCS or equivalent 3. Ability to perform most surgery, unsupervised 4. Capacity to apply good clinical knowledge and judgement to prioritise clinically 5. Participation in clinical audit activities 6. Ability to communicate effectively and to work in a multidisciplinary team. 7. Demonstrates awareness of ethics, safety, confidentiality and consent 8. Caring attitude to patients 9. Must have demonstrable written and spoken English skills to communicate with colleagues and patients
